BUDGIES

Some information on our family pets - our Budgies

Budgies from a Two year old's perspective

Budgies can't hold things, they havn't got hands they've got flaps

He's got a hard mouth

Shut the door - they're shouting

Initially we got a young budgie, a smart looking light grey (almost white) bird with a light blue breast. The bird is called TILLY and we are glad it grew up to be a female not a male! You just can't tell until they are a bit older..Tilly
Papa and Galos Within a week we had aquired almost by default, an older breeding pair in traditional green and yellow colours, to keep the young budgie company.

The other two didn't have individual names at first - they were just refered to as "the Gannets" due to their ability to strip a millet stalk in an instant.
They have now been named PAPA and GALOS.

We soon got another young budgie to keep TILLY company, a yellow and green bird but with subtle colours and muted markings, this one has been named KITRINO because of its yellow markings.Kitrino
Tilly 2We recently found a bird that is a spitting image of tilly so had to have it, especially as this one is a male bird.
As it looks so similar we have not thought of a suitable name yet, its just refered to as TILLY 2
We have given them a new home, its one cage to take all of them, its quite large with two compartments a roof and castors so it can be wheeled out side, its like a mobile aviary.

We have put TILLY, TILLY 2 and KITRINO together in the top and PAPA and GALOS occupy the lower apartment.

They all seem very happy and chatty together.

We have added a bar across the roof from which we hang budgie swings, which they like as its the highest roosting spot, we found some better perches in Greece of all places, they are shaped much more like natural branches than the type we get in the UK which is better for their feet, and we put the whole cage outside in the summer where they converse with the local sparrows "They're still shouting"

Birds in the Aviary

Well - Budgies being what they are we gradually lost them one at a time, first GALOS died which left us with two male and two female budgies, we removed the centre partition from the cage so all four Budgies could keep each other company, this worked well though PAPA tended to stay in the lower half of the cage, being half as big again as the other three might have had something to do with it.

We then lost PAPA leaving us with the three younger birds, then TILLY became ill and we lost her too, leaving us with just TILLY 2 and KITRINO who seem very happy together "They're still shouting"
